Sundowns set to offload slew of fringe players

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to cut ties with a long list of fringe players at the end of the season as they look to open space for new signings to refresh the squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

It became a norm to sign players and loan them without even kicking the ball in an official match under former coach Pitso Mosimane, but things seem to be changing under Manqoba Mnqithi and Rhulani Mokoena as they look to release players who are not getting as much game time.

It's normal that when a new coach comes in with his philosophy that some players who had been working with the old coach get axed - especially senior players. This is to make room for fresh legs that come into the club with a hunger to make a name for themselves in a game.

Aubrey Ngoma, who spent the entire 2020/21 campaign on loan at his former club Cape Town City is set to rejoin the citizens on a permanent basis, while others will have to wait to see where their new homes will be next season.

Here is the full list of Sundowns players linked with an exit:

George Maluleka

Nyiko Mobbie

Sammy Seabi

Tiyani Mabunda

Lucky Mohomi

Aubrey Ngoma

Tebogo Langerman

Jody February

Affonso

Grand Margerman

Bangaley Soumahoro

George Maluleka has been linked with a move to his former club Supersport United.

The Brazilians have already sealed the DStv Premiership title for this season and will surely offload those who've not been used much as part of their rebuilding project. However, it is worth mentioning they will need a big squad as they will be competing in the continent for the CAF Champions League and will hope to improve on their quarter-final exit.
